I was chatting with Mum recently and we touched on the topic of Dad. Dad is or now was a heavy smoker. Whenever I see him, he always have a cigarette lited. Recently he has been coughing a lot and it has been so long that I can't remember when did he start to cough. Well, the coughs are so bad that sometimes it will wake me up from my sleep. He is unable to sleep at times due to the bad cough.

He has visted the doctors numerous times. Each time the Doctors just give him a different cough mixture and he always finished them but the cough will persist. Finally, he decided to go for an X ray. The initial results were pretty bad as he has been smoking since he was 18 years old and now he is 57. However the results he obtained from the specialist was that he is fine but he needs to stop smoking.

Dad went to sign up for the Quite Smoking Course and attended the counseling sessions without fail. I was so impressed. I have always tried to make him go for such courses and I will either get an earful from him or he will just say I don't understand. The best thing that he has done is reducing the amount of cigaretts from 40 sticks to just 14 sticks a day! Wow!

When I was on my way to the kitchen just now, I saw him counting the number of cigarettes left in the box. After counting, he just placed the box back onto the table and did not lit up any cigarettes to smoke. I am proud of him. I hope that he will perserver and reduce the nos to even a single digit and finally to zero. I know that its not easy for him since he has been smoking for more than 27 years, but I really hope that he can do it.

Dad I am behind you and supporting you in reducing your cigarettes.
